Sarah and I have had a really interesting few months, learning more about ourselves, our strengths, and what makes us such a successful partnership.
I want to share with you an insight into who we are as people because between us, we haven’t been employed for 18 years.
18 years shows that the strengths we possess as individuals create not just profitable but sustainable businesses.
I’m going to start with myself, because who doesn’t like to save the best until last?
My core internal workings are made up of the following 7 significant strengths, they are what not only define me in business, but it’s fair to say probably in life.
I would describe myself as a “Black and White” pretty sensible, possibly even boring individual who likes to focus on bullet points, figures and statistics. My brain likes to work in facts, evidence and research. I’m not the most ‘fun’ to work with in business because my enthusiasm is often directed only at results, not so much at how I outwardly sell myself.
Get a few Gins in me and I loosen up, I’m not the woman you avoid sitting next to at a party or anything, but I think it’s fair to say that any of my client’s know that on strategic sessions, I’m looking for the numbers and data, not the “fluff”.
(I’m going to come back to the fluff so reserve making any judgement just for now)
So here are my strengths, a science-based blueprint of my core being:
Not bad…. Great for sales, strategy, overcoming challenges, leading others and remaining original in a world full of faded copies…
But not perfect.
Not that I believe perfect exists.
Can you see what’s missing?
Now, just because I don’t have much of it (I do have some of it) … that is not to say I don’t think it’s important. I actually believe it is more than important, it is absolutely vital to the success of not just a business, but for employee performance, engagement, connection and wellbeing in any organisation.
The fluff not only keeps people within the business happy, motivated and productive… It keeps customers loyal, talking about you to others and willing to spend.
Let me introduce to the strengths of Sarah Stone, my business partner, friend, and yin to my yang.
Sarah has a completely different makeup, one equally as vital to ensuring the success of running a business!
Fluffy isn’t she? We meet on common ground with our enthusiasm for results and for continuously being the innovators in our industries raising those bars. We also share a strategic vision for both companies and individuals alike…. But where I get focused in the “boring but important bits” Sarah whisks herself and our clients away into a space of love, care and encouragement for them as people, not just as business owners.
Before you think I don’t care, I do… but my concern for the results can overshadow personal circumstances.
But with Sarah, she always sees the person first, and that is why 12 of those successful 18 years sit with her.
We pride ourselves on the fact that we have built two hugely successful businesses organically together, with loyal followers, repeat customers and the majority of our new business coming from recommendations. Awesome when advertising can be such a huge outflow to your cash flow!
I couldn’t have done that alone, and it’s fair to say, I don’t think Sarah could either. Our combined strengths are two halves of literally the most DELICIOUS cake, and who wants just a slice when you can have the whole lot!?
Understanding the strengths that you have in abundance and those that you lack, in my opinion, are fundamental to not just your personal growth, but to your business growth.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.
Knowing what you don’t bring to the table allows you to assess where you are vulnerable, where you are unable to grow, or where you are unable to sustain. Who wouldn’t want that insight?
Knowing what you do bring to the table allows you to step confidently into your zone of genius with ease and flow! No fears, no reservations, just pure power and action.
There are three things that I want you to take away from reading this:
- No one is a full cake, no one. But you can add more slices with self-development, support, outsourcing and collaborating.
- Results without the fluff = possibly winning a battle, but probably not the war.
- Sarah Stone is leading the way is strengths-based sustainability for entrepreneurs with the support of Strengthscope®, the industry leaders in strengths assessments to optimise peak performance. You should let us know if this is something that you would like to understand about yourself for your own business and for potential future collaborations.
I will end on this note:
I heart Sarah, our businesses are just beautiful because of everything she brings to our partnership.
