Success is measured differently for every single individual, so why do we spend so much of our lives comparing ourselves to others?
It’s something we don’t understand but guess it’s the way we are…we naturally end up comparing because I suppose we’re perfectionists!
Everybody has different goals/abilities/needs/stretches….so how can you possibly compare yourself to someone else?
You can’t – well you shouldn’t!
Success to me means being happy & living my happy life with those I love – this is important for you to note – this is MY personal success – have a good think about what yours is…
Other people’s version of success is different – they may only feel successful when they have reacher a certain income level, or hit a certain promotion at work, or hit their target weight.
Truth is – we’re way too hard on ourselves and often don’t identify our own success because we think we’ve not achieved something brilliant – just because it doesn’t look like the “typical” success. This comes with the comparison thing again – You could have achieved something you think is absolutely amazing….but someone you know doesn’t necessarily class that as a success in their eyes – so then you automatically feel like you’re not good enough.
This doesn’t mean that what they deem successful and not successful is the right answer – come on babe, you can’t really take that on board??
Stop this right now!!
Social comparison is awful but like previously mentioned – it’s just the natural thing in us.
Measure your own success and don’t worry about what your version is compared so another person’s version – everybody is different, no matter what you keep telling yourself.
So take a good look in the mirror today and reevaluate your goals, give yourself a break and accept that you are successful – you just need to stop being so harsh on yourself and looking left and right.
We will be focusing on this theme throughout December so keep an eye out for more, but in the mean time, keep doing your thing and know you’re absolutely amazing in your own unique way.
